If you’re familiar with the market, then you probably heard of Dewalt already. They are a well-known brand of power tools, and they usually don’t disappoint with their new models. Dewalt DCCS620P1 – The Basics
This particular model is one of the best from our list. It features a powerful motor, great safety features, convenient design, and most importantly – it’s affordable. The brushless motor offers high efficiency and a decent amount of power output. In fact, you can tackle any mid-sized project without worrying about downtime or subpar performance. On the other hand, if you’re planning on using it for professional purposes, it might not be the best choice, especially due to the fact that it’s powered by a battery that has its limitations.
When it comes to ideal applications, this chainsaw can cut through most of the things you put in front of it, as long as it’s within the limitations. Even though the manufacturer didn’t specify the amount of cuts on a single charge, you can rest assured that it offers at least 60 4x4 pinewood cuts.
The Features
The design
As we said, the design is excellent. One can tell that the engineers have paid attention to details and designed a pretty convenient machine. The hand grip is one of the best we have seen so far. The rubber coating is sturdy yet soft enough to offer a good deal of comfort. It also decreases the amount of vibrations significantly. In fact, this model is one of the rare ones with almost unnoticeable vibrations, especially when you’re wearing protective gloves.
The tool-free tensioning system is a neat addition, but it’s a standard one, and you can find it in most modern chainsaws. However, the way it is designed makes it stand out from the rest. Instead of featuring a bulky knob, this model has a somewhat retractable one. In other words, you don’t have to worry about it being in the way during use. Many models have this issue, and it can be quite a nuisance sometimes, especially because it increases your overall downtime.
As far as the battery goes, it can be used with other Dewalt products as well. Therefore, if you already have a machine that’s a part of their 20V program, its battery can be utilized with this model. However, the battery and a charger are included with the DCCS620P1.
Safety
The safety features are functional and efficient. The 12-inch bar features a low-kickback tip, which is usually a standard nowadays. Make sure you wear protective equipment and always read the user manual before turning the machine on for the first time. It might seem redundant, especially if you’re already experienced with these machines, but reading the manual can give you a better insight into the complexity and mechanical principles of a particular model.
Pros:
Cons:
Things we liked about it
The quality of production is definitely one of the strongest points of this unit. It’s very well-made, and you can rest assured that it will last for years, as long as you maintain it in good condition. Speaking of maintenance, that’s also one of the things we liked. Contrary to popular belief, battery-powered units don’t require as much maintenance as one would imagine. Therefore, all you have to worry about is the battery levels and your own safety.
While one cannot say this is a cheap power tool, it’s certainly an affordable one, especially if you’re looking for high-quality units. Being a premium model, the price doesn’t seem too hefty, especially if you’re going to use the full potential of this machine. Even though you cannot expect professional performance, it’s still more than enough to cater to most DIY enthusiasts and hobbyists.
Things we didn’t like
The manufacturer doesn’t include any oil with the unit. Now, while it may not be a massive downside, it can have an effect on inexperienced users. In other words, make sure you fill the oil reservoir before using the unit. Also, make sure to remember to pay attention to the oil levels and don’t let it dry out. As soon as you run out of lubricant, the whole integrity of the chain, as well as the machine, is jeopardized.
General user impressions
Homeowners love this model, while the professionals don’t care too much about it due to its lack of power. While some 40V models can be used for professional purposes, the 20V ones are far from ideal. Therefore, if you’re an occasional user, this model will bring enough to the table. On the other hand, if you’re a professional, you might want to look for something else with more power output.
Conclusion
This unit might be a worthy investment for people that are planning on using its full potential. As far as the beginners go, it won’t be hard to learn how to use it, but it might be overkill for some lighter tasks. If you want to cut downtime, we recommend buying a spare battery and keeping one charged at all times.
The biggest advantage of this model is its brand. As we already said, Dewalt is well-known for making quality products; therefore, you shouldn’t worry about sudden malfunctions and failures too much.
