Remington RM1025SPS – The Basics
When hard-to-reach branches are in question, this particular model solves the issue without breaking a sweat. If you have high trees in your backyard, then you probably know how big of a nuisance they can be, especially during the fall season. However, all of that can be solved without too many issues. The 8-amp motor offers around 1HP which is more than enough of power for cutting through even some thicker branches. On the other hand, don’t expect a heavy-duty performance with particularly thick trees.
One of the biggest advantages of this model is its versatility. While you can use it as a pole saw, it can also be detached and utilized as a mini version of a regular chainsaw. The anti-rotation design is quite handy because it prevents the machine from rotating during use which can also be a pretty significant safety risk.
The Features
The design
The 2-in-1 design is the selling point for this particular machine. In other words, due to the versatile design, you can use it both for hard-to-reach places and as a regular saw. However, as we said, one shouldn’t expect a heavy-duty performance when it comes to larger trees due to certain power limitations. The hand grip is well-designed, and it doesn’t cause the usual wrist issues. Many people have had a problem with wrist inflammation due to the weight being concentrated on the top of the unit. While this model isn’t significantly different than the others, the weight is somewhat annulled by leaning the unit on the element you’re cutting. It’s a far more complex matter, but the simplest explanation is that it doesn’t cause the usual problems addressed to pole saws.
The flip and lock clamps are easy to use and made of hard plastic. They allow you to adjust the length of the pole on the go, without having to use any additional or proprietary tools. The instant start system is a great addition because it guarantees effortless ignition.
Safety
The biggest safety element of this unit is its low kickback 10-inch bar. The anti-rotation system can also be considered as a safety measure, especially because some injuries might happen due to sudden and unexpected rotations, especially during use.
Pros:
Affordable
Easy to use
Versatile
Cons:
Occasional oil leaks
Things we liked about it
The portability and ease of use are the two things we liked about this product. Even though it’s an electric chainsaw meaning it does require a constant power source, it’s still quite portable. The thing you have to think about is the extension cord. Make sure you buy an extension cord with proper resistance values, although that shouldn’t be too hard to find considering the unit draws only around 700 watts at max 8 amperes.
The other thing we liked is the affordability. While many other models tend to have a hefty price due to the expensive components within the chassis, this one has a pretty reasonable one. In fact, it’s a good choice even for people who are on a tight budget. As long as you use the full potential of this unit, it should be a pretty worthy investment.
Things we didn’t like
It seems that this model has a general issue with the oiling system. While it’s not a major concern, the oil tends to leak when the unit is stored upside down. Needless to say, if you store it the right way, it shouldn’t have any problems with accidental oil leaks.
Although the model is lightweight, it can still cause some fatigue, especially after prolonged use. Therefore, make sure you are in a decent physical shape before opting for this particular model or else you’re going to have a significant amount of downtime. The lack of power isn’t a downside per se, but you should be aware of the fact that it doesn’t cope well with particularly thick trees as it’s not foreseen for such applications.
General user impressions
Judging by the online reviews, people seem to like this unit. It’s not the best on the market by any means, but it does its job quite well. It’s also pretty easy to use meaning even inexperienced homeowners can utilize it without any limitations as long as they follow the guidelines addressed in the user manual. Speaking of user manuals, make sure you read this one before turning the machine on for the first time in order to make sure that everything is setup correctly.
Conclusion
This is a good saw for people who like to take good care of their backyard. If you have any hard-to-reach branches to cut, this particular model might be a good solution. On top of that, once you’re done with the pole, all you have to do in order to turn it into a mini chainsaw is detach the clamps.
You should skip on purchasing this unit if you’re looking for a heavy-duty tool that is capable of cutting through thick wood because this one isn’t foreseen for such projects. In case you need something with more power, check out some of our reviews of gas-powered models.
