Review Summary:
GreenWorks is a pretty well-known manufacturer of power tools. They offer a wide variety of different machines, but their chainsaw line is one of the best on the market. Now, it may sound pretty easy, but finding the best one for yourself isn’t a simple task, especially if you don’t know what to look for. On the other hand, if you do know what you’re looking for, take a moment and check out the specifications, features, and our opinion about a particular model. You don’t have to take it for granted, but it will certainly offer you more information than you expected.
The thing you shouldn’t do is purchase the first thing you stumble upon. Many people make this mistake, and most of them end up disappointed with their new power tool due to certain limitations or plain lack of knowledge about certain things. If you want to buy something that will last for years and stay equally efficient, take a look at this model.
Specifications:
- Battery – 40V G-MAX Li-Ion

GreenWorks 20262 – The Basics
If you’re looking for power, versatility, and efficiency, then this particular model might be of interest to you. It offers up to 50% less noise and vibration than its predecessors, and it’s also quite lightweight. The tool-less chain tensioning system allows you to adjust the machine on the go without having to use any proprietary tools. On top of that, the 40V G-Max battery is compatible with some other models issued by the same company.
The machine is easy to use and doesn’t require much maintenance. All you have to do is keep an eye on the oil levels and make sure you utilize the appropriate extension cords. The safety features are effective and well-designed.
The Features
The design
The design is okay, but it has a major flaw as far as we are concerned. The battery slot is just too cumbersome for some people. We do find it a bit peculiar, but you can rest assured that many people don’t like the overall look and feel of it. On the other hand, it can be a useful thing because of the beneficial weight transfer. However, we aren’t sure why weight transfer is needed in the first place considering the overall weight of this unit which is not more than 7 pounds.
The tool-less chain tensioning is a pretty good addition to this model. It allows you to cut downtime significantly by using a single knob to adjust the machine instead of having to use additional tools. On the other hand, it can be a bit clunky from time to time.
The lack of noise and vibrations is one of the biggest advantages of the 20262 model. As far as the noise goes, it’s a bit less significant thanks to the mandatory earplugs which every user should wear in the first place. The more significant factor is the absence of intense vibrations. In simpler words, you don’t have to worry about fatigue and exhaustion caused by strong vibrations.
Safety
As far as the safety measures go, they are acceptable. There aren’t any impressive safety features per se, but the included ones offer more than enough security for anyone who knows what they are doing. Needless to say, make sure you read the user manual before turning the machine on for the first time.
Pros:
Tool-less system
Good battery
Short recharge cycle
Cons:
Peculiar design
Things we liked about it
The battery is pretty good and offers more than enough power both for homeowners and even some professionals. It can make up to 75 cuts on a single charge, depending on the thickness of the wood. The 2Ah battery needs an hour for a full recharge, while the 4Ah one needs two hours. Needless to say, both of them have tolerable recharge cycles, especially if you include a spare battery. Therefore, downtime is minimal if you plan it right.
The other thing we liked is the compatibility with other units issued by GreenWorks. In simpler words, if you have a mower from their G-Max line, you can utilize this battery to power the mower without any compatibility issues and predicaments.
Things we didn’t like
The huge bulge on top of the chassis is something we definitely didn’t like. Truth be told, it doesn’t interfere with performance nor does it change the ergonomics much, but the aesthetic appeal is definitely jeopardized. The chain tensioning system is okay, but it could have been far better. It sometimes doesn’t work as it should, but those are only a few isolated cases. For the most part, everything works pretty well and smooth.
The price is acceptable, but we’ve seen cheaper models with similar features. Therefore, make sure you check those out as well, before opting for this particular one.
General user impressions
Many people liked this model. It’s quite simplistic, easy to use, and easy to maintain in good condition. All you have to do in order to get things started is push a single button (and, of course, charge the battery). Therefore, as far as the convenience goes, a lot of users gave it a good review. The professionals aren’t keen on reviewing battery-powered chainsaws as they aren’t as utilized for professional purposes as, for example, gas-powered ones.
Conclusion
In the end, it all comes down to your own personal preferences. If you find these specifications and features sufficient for your requirements, don’t hesitate to check this model out, it is indeed a worthy investment. On the other hand, if you’re looking for something special, this probably isn’t the best choice. There aren’t any special features involved in the design meaning it’s a pretty simple piece of equipment, although very well-made.
We would recommend this unit to homeowners and occasional users. It’s a good power tool with more than enough power for plenty of cutting. On the other hand, if you’re a professional, then you probably know by know that this isn’t your cup of tea.
