Review Summary:
Finding the ultimate chainsaw is like finding a stack of money in the middle of the street – it’s not impossible, but it’s highly unlikely. However, we have some good news for you! This review will cause some interest in people who are looking for a powerful, versatile, affordable, and easy-to-use machine. As you may know, Husqvarna is a well-known Swedish brand, and they have a good reputation among the consumers.
It’s up to you to see if this particular model meets your requirements. As we mentioned, it’s quite a versatile piece and therefore suitable for a large group of people with similar needs. The fuel efficiency is great, the weight is tolerable, and most importantly – it can be considered absolutely safe as long as you follow the safety regulations.
Specifications:
- Cylinder displacement – 50.2 cc
- Power output – 3.2HP
- Maximum RPM – 9600
- Oil pump – Fixed flow
- Weight – 11.3 pounds
Husqvarna 450 X-Torq – The Basics
This unit features a 3.2HP motor which offers smooth and clean cuts, even on thick trees. The X-Torq technology is responsible for economical fuel consumption and reduction of emission gasses. The engine utilizes a three-piece crankshaft which is guaranteed to last for years as long as it’s properly maintained. The SmartStart technology allows for easy and effortless starts even under rough conditions.
If you want to have a highly portable machine that delivers almost 10.000 RPM under full load and consumes only a fraction of fuel in comparison to some others, this particular model might be your cup of tea. Take a look at the detailed description of other features and see if it meets your requirements. The key to finding the best-suiting chainsaw for yourself lies in the details. Make sure you pay attention to the small things because more often than not those things can make or break a gas-powered chainsaw.
The Features
The design
The design is reliable, ergonomic, and sturdy. Husqvarna models usually feature all of these three elements with little to no exception. Therefore, you can expect a trustworthy and reliable piece of hardware if you ever opt for this particular model. The starting process is simplified and easy meaning even absolute beginners can learn to operate the 450 X-Torq within a day. Although, make sure you cover everything as far as safety features go before you start using your new tool, regardless of your previous experience.
The hand grips are rubberized and pretty effective when it comes to reducing intense vibrations. However, we would have liked to see non-slip handles with a serrated rubber coating as it’s usually the safer option. On the other hand, it’s more of a nitpicking than it is an actual issue.
What makes this unit stand out is its sheer power. It’s more powerful than the average consumer chainsaw, but it doesn’t come at the cost of more weight as it usually does. Therefore, the power-to-weight ratio is one of the best we have seen so far.
Safety
As with all other models manufactured by this brand, the safety is at a high level. Low-kickback and the inertia activated chain brake significantly reduce the likelihood of injury. The centrifugal air cleaning system keeps both your hands and the air filter clean throughout the day. The air filter features a quick-release system for easy maintenance.
Pros:
High quality
Good fuel consumption
EasyStart system
Cons:
Somewhat loud
Can overheat
Things we liked about it
The thing we liked the most is the versatility of this model. Thanks to its high power output, you can use it as a serious professional tool for cutting large chunks of wood. On the other hand, it can also be used as an occasional accessory for cleaning up your backyard. In other words, there are plenty of applications you can use this model for, and that’s what makes it desirable for most consumers.
The next advantage on the list is the quality of production. While many other manufacturers choose to neglect some irrelevant design aspects, people from Husqvarna pay special attention to details and do everything by the book.
Things we didn’t like
More than a few people reported problems with the starting mechanism. We didn’t notice that particular issue, but it’s certainly worth mentioning so that you know what to expect potentially. The other disadvantage we have noticed is the noise level. Even though it’s a matter of personal preferences, we would have liked to see fewer decibels in the results. Needless to say, quality ear protection will solve the problem instantly.
The user manual is lacking some important information about the general working principles, but that isn’t much of a downside in today’s world which is full of accessible additional information online. Furthermore, if you ever get stuck with something, don’t hesitate to contact their customer support and they will be more than happy to help you.
General user impressions
A vast majority of individuals that bought this model loved its somewhat simplistic design and ease of use. On top of that, it doesn’t require as much maintenance as some other models on the market meaning it’s a perfect solution for people who aren’t keen on frequently disassembling their power-tool. The biggest drawback as far as the users are concerned is the lackluster user manual.
Conclusion
It may not be the ultimate chainsaw on the market, but you can rest assured that it’s near the top. The price is okay, although it could be a bit smaller. However, considering it’s a premium model coming from a well-known brand, one cannot say it’s not a worthy investment. In fact, it’s one of our top-recommended models alongside the Rancher 460 model due to their high efficiency and balanced fuel consumption.
If you’re looking for a top-notch chainsaw with more than enough power to fulfill most of your daily tasks, feel free to check this model out. In case it’s not your cup of tea, don’t hesitate to read our other reviews and you might find something of interest.
