Review Summary:

When most people hear the name Husqvarna, they immediately think about high quality. The reason behind that is pretty simple – this particular brand has been on the market for quite a while now, and they are well-respected by professionals and hobbyists. A lot of consumers think that buying a gas-powered chainsaw is as easy as it sounds, but it couldn’t be farther from the truth. You have to pay attention to plenty of things before you find the ideal model that meets your requirements.

If you’re not a professional, there is a high chance that you’ll either miss or oversee some of the important factors. That’s why it’s crucial that you gather as much relevant data as possible about a particular model in order to avoid overpaying it or simply buying something you won’t utilize as much and make it cost-efficient. Take a moment and check this review out, it might help to offer some much-needed insight into the specifications of this unit.

Husqvarna 460 Rancher – The Basics

When it comes to excellent power output, reliability, and versatility, this model is among our top-recommended ones. As we already mentioned, this particular brand is quite respected, and it’s for a good reason – a vast majority of their products are top-notch premium power tools. As far as this model goes, it offers more than enough power and torque to cut through any wood without breaking a sweat.

It features an innovative fuel-saving system named X-Torq which also reduces the amount of emission gases in accordance with strict environmental regulations. On top of that, it’s quite easy to use even though it seems cumbersome and complex.

The Features

The design

When you take a look at this machine, it doesn’t seem much different from a conventional gas-powered chainsaw. However, you can rest assured that it packs a ton of auxiliary features that are responsible for improving performance and safety. The chassis is made of durable and sturdy materials, but it’s not as heavy as one would imagine. On the other hand, if you’re a daily user, it might become a burden to carry this model around all day. Therefore, you can expect some downtime due to fatigue, but you shouldn’t be worried much about it because more power means less physical work.

The hand grips aren’t particularly well-cushioned, but the anti-vibration system performs as advertised meaning you don’t have to worry about fatigue too much. Also, with the use of safety gloves, the vibrations are negligible. The air cleaning system is also a great addition to an already versatile machine. It works on a simple principle and uses centrifugal force to eliminate large debris and prevent damage to the air filter. It results in better engine life and cleaner parts.

Safety

Low-kickback is the biggest factor when it comes to safety features. On top of that, the inertia activated chain brake reduces the likelihood of kickback-caused injuries. The combined choke control reduces the risk of engine flooding and eases the starting process. Speaking of ignition, the SmartStart technology offers quick and effortless starts even under rough weather conditions.

R

What we liked about it

The sheer feeling of knowing it’s made of high-quality components is more than enough of a selling point as far as we are concerned. One of the most significant advantages of this model is its power output. Furthermore, it’s also easy to use, which is a rarity when it comes to particularly powerful machines. Even though it doesn’t require much previous expertise, there is still a learning curve you need to get familiar with before using this chainsaw. Make sure you read the user manual before the first operation so that you can make sure everything is set up properly.

Also, the thing we liked the most is the price. One would expect a hefty price for such a trustworthy machine, but it’s actually quite affordable. It may not be an ideal model for professionals, but it is a great one for occasional users and devoted DIYers.

Q

What we didn’t like

The user manual could have been written better. It’s not a bad one per se, but it’s also not particularly friendly towards absolute beginners. People who had used chainsaws in the past usually don’t have maintenance or assembly issues, but total beginners might stumble upon a predicament or two. However, you shouldn’t worry too much about that as most of the needed (additional) documentation is available online.

Maintenance can be an issue for the inexperienced users. Even though the oil tank is conveniently positioned and can be serviced without any tools, other components are sensitive and should be handled with care. In simpler words, make sure you know what you are doing while performing regular maintenance or else you risk jeopardizing the mechanical components due to improper handling.

General user impressions

Most people that invested in this model seem quite satisfied with its performance. The thing many people praise is the longevity of this model whereas the biggest drawback is usually the level of noise.

Truth be told, the problem with noise is strictly a matter of your personal tolerance levels. Earplugs solve the issue in a heartbeat.

Conclusion

If you’re looking for a decent chainsaw with a lot of auxiliary features, take a moment and check this one out. It has everything you’ll need in order to handle any project regardless of its size. We couldn’t find any significant downsides apart from a few minor ones that are easily solvable. As we said, the price is acceptable as far as we are concerned as long as you are planning on using the full potential of the Husqvarna 460 Rancher.
