Review Summary:

Once you find the right power tool for your needs, everything becomes much easier to handle. However, the catch is in finding the right one without having to overpay. There are hundreds of different chainsaws available on the market, but only a few dozens of them are worth looking into. In order to avoid extensive research, take a moment and check our review out, we’ve covered most of the fundamental features of this particular model.

If you’re looking for a great corded electric chainsaw with a satisfying amount of features, you might want to keep reading. This model doesn’t come without a few downsides, but it’s nothing you can’t overcome within a few uses. On top of that, it’s also quite easy to use meaning it’s recommended both for beginners and intermediate users.

Specifications:

  • Power – 15amps
  • Chain speed – 2900 RPM
  • Cutter bar length – 16 inches
  • Tensioning – Tool-less
  • Adjustable oil pump

Makita UC4051A – The Basics

When it comes to Makita as a manufacturer, they don’t let their devoted clients down. Needless to say, that’s exactly the case with this model as well. It features a powerful 1.8kW motor which is able to deliver up to around 2900 RPM. As you can tell, it should be more than enough of power to cut through branches, bushes, and even trees. On top of that, it’s suitable both for professionals and DIYers thanks to its great power output and ease of use.

If you’re looking for a tool that won’t let you down in the middle of a project and will keep running even under tough conditions – this model might be a good candidate. Truth be told, it does struggle with large trees, but it’s an expected outcome because it’s an electric saw after all and is not foreseen for tough tasks. The quality is great, the price is okay, and most importantly – the machine is reliable and trustworthy.

The Features

The design

The design is pretty conventional, and it doesn’t contain any impressive elements. However, apart from the fact that it’s more or less a standard design, it is definitely well-made and was thought through. In other words, many manufacturers oversee certain parameters, and their design consequently suffers. This one, on the other hand, will certainly meet your expectations and requirements. The chassis is sturdy and lightweight. The hand grips are rubberized, but the rubber coating doesn’t decrease the vibrations as much. We would have liked to see a better anti-vibration concept, especially from Makita. On the other hand, the overall amount of vibrations is tolerable meaning you don’t have to worry about it, even if the hand grip isn’t as premium-quality as one would hope it to be.

The tool-less adjustments are what makes this model worth checking out. Instead of having to bring an additional tool, you can adjust and fine-tune the machine on the go with a simple twist of a knob. The ergonomics are okay, and the whole machine is quite user-friendly, to say the least.

Safety

Low-kickback is the name of the game here. On top of that, this model also features an anti-burnout module which controls the amount of current flowing through the unit. In other words, this system is responsible for keeping the motor in pristine state at all times, regardless of the outside factors and conditions. However, make sure you read the user manual before using the machine just to make sure everything is set up correctly.

What we liked about it

The first thing we liked is the sheer power. In fact, it can stand side-by-side with some gas-powered units of equivalent size. Sadly, even the boosted amount of power won’t help you with particularly large trees. The other thing we liked is the build quality. Even though it’s not surprising considering it’s made by Makita, we always use the opportunity to praise their build quality. The moment you see this model you’ll know it’s made to last for a long time, as long as you keep a regular maintenance schedule. Speaking of maintenance, you don’t have to worry too much about it because it’s by far simpler than any gas-powered unit.

Start-up system is exceptional. Many corded chainsaws struggle with ignition mechanisms, but this one doesn’t. You can rest assured that it will start up with ease, even under unfavorable conditions.

Q

What we didn’t like

While it has a ton of great features, it won’t ever be a logging chainsaw. It might not be a downside per se, but you should be aware of the certain limitations coming with this particular model. As we said, it will cut through many things, but large trees aren’t one of those things.

Even though it may be considered affordable, it’s still on the expensive side of the spectrum. In other words, it might not be an ideal solution for people who are on a tight budget.

General user impressions

People love this model. Makita has sold thousands of these, and most reviewers liked the combination of sheer power and simplicity. Furthermore, devoted hobbyists appreciate the versatility of this unit even though it might be a bit expensive. Needless to say, it’s a premium model meaning you have to expect a realistic and decent price. However, as far as we are concerned, it’s definitely a worthy investment if you’re planning on using the full potential of it.

Conclusion

When it comes to the right choice, it all comes down to your needs and requirements. It doesn’t matter how good a product is if it isn’t the thing you’re looking for. Take a moment and go through some of the features of this model. If you find them tolerable and fulfilling, don’t hesitate to invest, it will certainly pay out.

However, if you’re looking for something that’s going to cut everything you put in front of it, you might want to consider buying a gas-powered model because this particular one isn’t foreseen to cope with massive projects.
