Review Summary:
Most chainsaws on today’s market are pretty straightforward and similar to each other in many ways. However, there is definitely more than meets the eye. The features and capabilities these machines hide under the hood are what counts at the end of the day. A lot of people simply don’t pay too much attention to small details, and that’s why they end up with an overpriced or subpar unit. In order to find the best-suiting model for yourself, you have to know what to look for – it’s as simple as that.
On the other hand, if you don’t want to conduct extensive research and waste hours of your time on the Internet, take a look at our reviews. We have covered a lot of popular models on the market so that you don’t have to collect relevant information from numerous sources that may lack credibility. This particular model is one of our recommended ones for people on a tight budget.

WORX WG303.1 – The Basics
If you’re looking for a decent power tool with more than enough power to cut through relatively thick trees – this might be a good candidate. Even though it’s a corded model, its 14.5 amps are enough for homeowner projects and occasional pruning and trimming. The automatic oil lubrication system allows you to use the machine without thinking about overflow or lack of lubricant. The convenient gauge window is designed to offer information about oil levels within the machine on the go. In other words, you should never run out of oil as long as you keep an eye on the levels.
As far as the most notable advantages go, there are plenty. For example, the patented auto-tension system comes in handy for absolute beginners and people who aren’t experienced when it comes to fine adjustments.
The Features
The design
At first glance, the design doesn’t seem too impressive. In fact, it doesn’t even look sturdy and reliable enough. However, that is only a visual impression; the materials used in production are indeed trustworthy and can withstand quite a beating. As far as the maintenance goes, one of the biggest things you need to think about is the level of oil in the machine at all times. Other than that, there aren’t many things you should worry about when it comes to maintaining the unit in optimal condition.
As we said, the automatic oiling system is one of the biggest selling points of this particular model. It’s also an element that’s responsible for alleviating some of the user’s responsibilities. In other words, the machine is easy to use because all the components are user-friendly and pretty straightforward.
Safety
The safety is okay, but there aren’t any peculiar features. The standard low-kickback system is well-designed, although it’s a two-edged sword. The reason is quite simple – because of the no-kick tip, it also won’t perform well at the tip. For example, it’s not an ideal solution for cutting in tight areas. The chain tensioning system isn’t a safety feature per se, but it certainly has a significant role in smooth performance.
One of the things you should always do before first use is to read the user manual, regardless of your previous experience. Make sure you have assembled the unit correctly by referring to the user manual.
Pros:
Cons:
What we liked about it
The power output is one of the brightest points of this machine. Even though it’s an electric unit, it still offers a great deal of consistent power output. Furthermore, it’s significantly less noisy than a vast majority of its gas-powered competitors. Therefore, if you’re looking for low levels of noise, the WORX WG303.1 will meet your expectations.
The ergonomic shape of the hand grip is very effective when it comes to reducing fatigue and exhaustion. On top of that, it is rubberized meaning you won’t feel a lot of vibrations during use. Also, at a mere 11 pounds, it’s one of the lightest models around considering the power-to-weight ratio.
What we didn’t like
The chain adjuster knob is somewhat too big and will loosen itself by rolling against the wood in tight areas. Make sure you pay attention to the knob when doing these cuts, because a sudden readjustment of the chain may cause some issues. Some people complained about it using too much oil for lubrication. However, that is the gamble you take with automatic systems. Luckily, the solution to this particular predicament is pretty simple – use thicker oil.
While it’s not a downside per se, make sure you purchase a suiting extension cord. In other words, it needs to be a high-quality extension cord or else the machine will lose power due to certain limitations and current drops.
General user impressions
Both DIYers and professionals like this particular model. It’s a compact, safe, and quite a powerful chainsaw. Once you find a unit with all three of these elements, there is no doubt it’s a worthy investment. Truth be told, it does come with a few disadvantages, but no machine is perfect. Beginners like its ease of use, while the professionals appreciate the overwhelming power output. Some people didn’t like the fact that it requires some assembly, but it’s pretty easy with the user manual by your side.
Conclusion
As you can tell, this model is certainly a good solution for occasional users. In fact, it can be used in some professional projects, but with certain limitations, the biggest being its power source. As you may know, electric units tend to be on the weaker side of the chart when compared to the gas-powered ones. Therefore, it all comes down to your personal requirements and needs. You shouldn’t expect a miraculous performance by any means, but you can rest assured that it will cope with anything you put in front of it as long as it’s within the unit’s limitations. Lastly, the price is more than acceptable, and this chainsaw can be regarded as budget-friendly.
