Review Summary:

When it comes to finding a power tool that suits your needs, you have to think about a couple of things. First of all, don’t buy the first one you stumble upon because you can rest assured that many other similar models may cost less but offer more. Many people make a common mistake of purchasing something just because it’s visually appealing or it seems like a good investment. Needless to say, you have to take a moment and check out the features and capabilities of a certain model in order to know whether or not it’s the right thing for you.

If you aren’t keen on conducting extensive research and spending hours on the Internet, check our articles out. We have covered a few chainsaws that we think are worth looking into due to their superiority in comparison to other popular units. This particular model offers quite a bit of features and it comes at an affordable price. Therefore, if you’re an occasional user on a budget – take a look at this unit.

Specifications:

  • Power – 12 amps
  • Bar length – 16 inches
  • Weight – 10 pounds
  • Reduced kickback
  • Auto oiling system
  • Tool-less chain tension system
  • Easy start

Earthwise CS30116 – The Basics

If you’re looking for a decent model for homeowners with enough power and torque to cut through medium-sized lumber, this might be an interesting one. Its 12amp motor isn’t the most powerful thing on the market by any means, but it’s a decent mid-range component. You can rest assured that it has enough power to help you with pruning, cleanups, and even some DIY projects. The safety features are pretty good, but are fairly standard and not worth pointing out. The thing that is worth focusing on is the affordable price.

The Features

The design

As far as the design goes, it’s relatively conventional and ergonomic. The hand grip seems comfortable, but we aren’t impressed with the cushioning. It does have a layer of rubber coating over the hand grip, but it’s not as functional as one would expect. In fact, it does not affect the vibrations intensity as much as we would like. However, it’s an issue that’s easily solvable with a pair of protective gloves.

The automatic oiling system is what makes this model worth checking out. Instead of having to worry about lubrication, all you have to worry about is the level of oil in your machine. The convenient gauge window is designed to help you read the levels on the go without having to mess with the components and additional tools. Speaking of tools, the tool-less tensioning system comes in handy both for professionals and ones that aren’t as experienced. The best thing about it is the fact that you don’t need any additional or proprietary tools in order to adjust the unit.

The thing that most people liked a lot is the easy start concept. As the name suggests, it allows you to start the machine with a simple push of a button. In other words, one of the main advantages of the CS30116 is its simplicity and ease of use.

Safety

The safety features are, as we said, pretty standard. The reduced kickback is great for inexperienced users, and the light weight of this unit allows you to have much more control than with some other models from our list. However, you can expect a certain level of fatigue due to the lack of anti-vibration systems.

What we liked about it

There are plenty of things we liked about this particular product. The first advantage we have noticed is the ease of use. Many power tools tend to be complex and hard to get around due to numerous mechanical components inside the chassis, especially when it comes to gas-powered units. However, this particular model is as simple as they can get. All you have to do upon its arrival is – read the manual, fill it with oil, and plug it in. Some assembly is required, but it’s not a big deal at all as it’s described well in the manual. Needless to say, you must read the instructions before use, even if you’re an experienced user, just to be safe and certain that everything is set up correctly.

The other thing we liked is the price-to-quality ratio. Even though it’s quite an affordable unit, it does not lack quality.

Q

What we didn’t like

The automatic oiler may cause some issues. While we didn’t stumble upon any, more than a few users reported an issue with this particular system. Therefore, it may not be a common thing, but it’s definitely something you should think about before investing.

Other than that, everything seems up to standards. It may not be the best unit on the market, but it’s certainly a good choice for occasional users.

General user impressions

A vast majority of people that bought this unit said that it did fulfill their expectations. Some of them had problems with shipping, but that’s a matter of shipping companies instead of being the manufacturer’s fault. Overall, the Earthwise CS30116 has been accepted by the community as a decent mid-ranged electric corded chainsaw for homeowners.

Conclusion

If you’re looking for a mighty machine that cuts everything in its path – this isn’t one of those. Therefore, don’t expect it to perform like a premium gas-powered model because you’re in for an unpleasant surprise. On the other hand, small home projects such as storm cleanups, pruning, and trimming are the ideal application for this particular model.

The weight is acceptable and easy to cope with. Therefore, you don’t have to worry much about getting tired of carrying the machine around. However, you will have to carry an extension cord at all times if you want any kind of mobility. Make sure you purchase an appropriate extension cord, or else you risk damaging the electronic components with lower voltage and amperage. In the end, it all comes down to your personal preferences. If you find this model interesting, don’t hesitate to make an investment.
